When Ash first reached out to enquire about a maternity session, she came prepared. Her inspiration folder was full of images that stopped me in my tracks - soft, cinematic, deeply romantic. The kind of stills you’d pause on in a film and think, I want to live inside that moment. From the very first message, it was clear this session was going to be something special.
We met at North Curl Curl at sunrise, and the light delivered in the most extraordinary way. There’s something about the early morning at North Curl Curl that feels almost otherworldly - the way the sun lifts over the headland slowly and spills across the water, the stillness before the rest of the world wakes up, the beach entirely yours (apart from a few dog walkers of course!!). It’s one of my favourite Northern Beaches locations to shoot at for exactly this reason. It already looks like a film set.
During this session we focused on movement, they danced, they walked, Vlad span Ash around and they ran. There’s a kind of ease between two people who are genuinely in love and genuinely excited, and those two had it in spades. I kept Ash’s inspo in mind the whole time - that romance-film quality, the tenderness, the way the best couples photography makes you feel like you’re witnessing something private and true. We leaned into connection over serious poses, into feeling over performance, and what came out of that morning was exactly the session Ash had dreamed of.

This is what I love about maternity photography on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It’s not just about documenting a bump. It’s about capturing the two of you - the partnership, the anticipation, the particular ache and wonder of being 32 weeks pregnant and standing at the edge of the biggest change of your life, with someone you love beside you. The pregnancy goes fast. These photographs don’t.
